Compound words & phrases
Search for phrases and hyphenated compounds such as “ice cream”. Phrases appear underlined in the results.
Filters & limits
% most frequent words
Measured against the 50,000 most frequent English words, so 10 means roughly the 5,000 commonest. 100 turns the filter off. It also applies to words from your uploads and to phrases: uploaded words are looked up in the same ranking, and a phrase counts as its least frequent word. Anything not in the 50,000 is treated as outside the filter.
Sorting & layout
Most common first and Alphabetical check as many results as they can (up to 10 seconds) before ranking. Common ranks by how frequently each word is used.
Strict puts a result with one rare word below results made only of everyday words. Average is more forgiving of a single uncommon word.
As found follows your per-word part-of-speech rules. If you haven't set any, it puts words in the most natural order where it can, such as adjective before noun. The other choices reorder the words of every result, so "decree smooth" can read "smooth decree". The order of the per-word length and part-of-speech rules no longer matches the display order, but those rules still decide which results are found. Combine with Sort results: Alphabetical to sort by the first word.
Underlined entries are phrases. Tap a word to lock it and search for the rest. Use the copy icon to copy a result, or the star to save it to Favourites.

What Word Gramble does
It rearranges the letters you give it into new words or phrases, using every letter exactly once by default. Type a gentleman and it finds elegant man. It works for anagrams of names and phrases, crossword and cryptic clues, Scrabble racks and other word games.
Basic use
Type letters, a word or a phrase in the box. Spaces, capitals and punctuation are ignored.
Choose how many words you want in Word rules: Exactly a number, Up to a number (fewest words first), or Any.
Press Find anagrams. Results appear below, most common words first. Press Show more results at the bottom for more.
Tap a word in a result to lock it, then search for the rest of the letters. Use ⧉ to copy a result and ☆ to save it to Favourites.
Each result shows how many letters it uses, such as 13/15 letters, and which letters are unused.
The settings
The buttons under the tabs open one group of settings at a time. A dot on a button means something in it differs from the defaults. Reset settings puts everything back.
Word rules
Number of words, the minimum and maximum letters per word, and which parts of speech are allowed (noun, verb, adj, adv, other). Leave all part-of-speech buttons off to allow any. Turn off Same rules for every word to set rules for each word in turn, for example word 1 an adjective and word 2 a noun. With no part of speech set, words are put in a natural order such as adjective before noun.
Letters
Use as many letters as possible shows results that use every letter first, then results leaving one letter unused, then two, and so on. Set Unused letters allowed to cap that, or leave it blank for no limit.
Letter reuse: Off uses each letter once. Across words lets every word draw on all your letters. Unlimited lets letters repeat freely, even inside one word.
Compounds
Turn on compound words and phrases such as “ice cream” or “nor’-east”. Choose Compound list only or Standard + compound, and whether a phrase counts as one entry or as the words it contains.
Filters
Common words only and Only the top N% most frequent words cut out obscure words. You can also avoid proper nouns (names), avoid repeating the same word, exclude specific words, and set a maximum number of results.
Sorting
Sort results by commonness, alphabetically, or in search order (fastest). Rank by the least common word (strict) or the average of all words. Reorder the words inside each result (as found, longest first, or A–Z), and switch between grid and numbered list.
Word lists (gear icon)
The gear opens your word lists. Upload your own standard list or compound list as a text file with one entry per line, optionally followed by a part of speech such as bright, adj. Use the built-in list, your upload or both.
Favourites
Starred results are listed as source → anagram. Sort them, change the word order with ⇄, copy them all, export them to a text file, or import a list from one (one source -> anagram per line). Removing and clearing always ask first.
